Obituary: Nicola Melia, 89, Of Stamford

Nicola “Nick” Melia, 89, a resident of Stamford, Connecticut passed away on Thursday, May 6th, 2021 in Stamford.

Nick was born on April 16th, 1932 in Cirella, Calabria, Italy, the son Giovanni and Serafina Melia. Nick came to Montreal, Canada in 1952 at 20 years old and later settled in Stamford.

For 55 years, Nick worked as a barber and owner of multiple hair salons under Continental Coiffures. He was also a builder. Nick loved playing Pinochle, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his home.

Nick is survived by his daughter Sarah; daughter-in-law Enma (John) and Philip (Stacey); life partner Annette and her children Chrissy, Gary, Eddie and Mark; friend and mother of his children Teresa; sister Carmella; 11 grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Nick is predeceased by his parents; brothers Vincenzo and Rocco; son John, who was laid to eternal rest 3 days prior to Nick’s passing.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Brain Foundation. The family wishes to thank The Residence at Summer Street for providing excellent care for Nick in his last few months of life.
