Stamford Health Names New Chair For Department Of Surgery
After an extensive national search, Stamford Health named David Yuh, MD, FACS, FACC, as Chair, Department of Surgery.

STAMFORD, CT – After an extensive national search, Stamford Health named David Yuh, MD, FACS, FACC, as Chair, Department of Surgery, effective November 1. In this role, Dr. Yuh will be responsible for the direction of general surgical services available at Stamford Hospital, help guide the surgical residency program and oversee outpatient surgeries at Stamford Health’s Tully Health Center. Board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Yuh specializes in minimally invasive approaches toward heart valve repair and replacement as well as surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation.

Prior to joining Stamford Health, Dr. Yuh was Professor and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Yale University and Surgical Director, Yale-New Haven Hospital Heart and Vascular Center. He also was the founding Director of the Minimally-Invasive Cardiac Surgical Program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he performed the first robot-assisted cardiac operation in 2003. Dr. Yuh has served on several NIH study sections and is a permanent voting member of the Circulatory System Devices Advisory Panel at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
After receiving his undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford University, Dr. Yuh completed his general surgical and cardiothoracic surgical residencies at the Stanford University Medical Center before assuming his first academic faculty position at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

His research focuses on improving neurocognitive outcomes after cardiac surgery and developing computational models of the heart with advanced imaging techniques to improve preoperative surgical planning of complex reconstructive cardiac operations.
