Stamford Homicide Victim Identified By Police
Police have identified a 19-year-old Stamford resident who was killed in a shooting Sunday on West Avenue.

STAMFORD, CT — Police have identified a Stamford resident who was killed in a shooting Sunday on West Avenue.
Lt. Tom Scanlon said Courtney Lewis, 19, was fatally shot during a gathering in a parking lot, located at 600 West Ave., while a group of people were hanging out with their vehicles. The parking lot is used by several businesses, which were closed at the time, Scanlon said. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
At some point, a dispute broke out and shots were fired. Lewis was shot in the chest and taken to Stamford Hospital, where he died, Scanlon said.

A 17-year-old was shot in the leg and a 33-year-old was shot in the chest, according to Scanlon. The pair's injuries were not considered life-threatening. They were not identified by police.
Scanlon released information regarding the incident Monday, however Lewis was not identified as the homicide victim until Tuesday morning.

Scanlon also noted there were a number of people who witnessed the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department's major crimes office at 203-977-4417.
The Stamford Advocate reports Lewis was a graduate of Stamford High School, where he played football and volleyball. He played on the school's football team for four years and led the team in sacks in his final season.
Stamford Public Schools spokesperson Sharon Beadle said she could not comment on what school Lewis attended but noted the schools provide extra counseling services for any student or staff member who may need it whenever there is a death in the community that might impact students.
