Stamford Jewelers To Close After Over 70 Years In Business
The owners of Bedford Jewelers, located on High Ridge Road, said the store will close this month as they plan to retire.
STAMFORD, CT — After more than 70 years in business, Bedford Jewelers on High Ride Road will permanently close its doors Saturday as its owners plan to retire.
According to siblings Larry Weinroth and Ruth Weinroth Adatto, the store's current owners, they have been considering closing up shop and retiring for about three years.

They also noted the closure "had nothing to do with" the coronavirus crisis, which has affected businesses across the state; it is a planned retirement for the pair.
"We appreciate and value all of the loyalty [our] customers have extended to us all these years," the owners said in an email to Patch. "We will certainly miss the interactions with them, and the friendships that have developed. That is the most rewarding part of running the store."

Bedford Jeweler's origins in Stamford date back to 1949 when the pair's father, Harry Weinroth, opened his first store as a watch repair shop on Main Street, underneath a diner.
The store was eventually moved to another location on Main Street, then two different locations along Bedford Street before finally moving to High Ridge Road about 22 years ago.
According to the owners, many of the store's customers are the children and grandchildren of customers that came to the store 50-70 years ago.
"Our father always said that this isn't like most retail businesses," the owners said. "It's a business based on trust, like having a family doctor. We feel that the business has lasted over 71 years because we built relationships based on trust, honesty and fair prices."
Stamford Chamber of Commerce president Heather Cavanagh thanked the owners for their decades of serving the community and wished them well in their retirement.
"Small family businesses offer the unique personalized shopping opportunities and experiences," Cavanagh said. "Many of these business owners have become fixtures within the city that support our community. They know customers like they are family and contribute so much to the retail landscape within the city. We congratulate and thank the owners of Bedford Jewelers for more than 70 years of dedication and service to the Stamford and surrounding communities. We wish them well in their retirement and next chapter of their lives."
