Stamford Man Charged with Robbing Summer Street Bank

Stamford authorities announced the arrest of a 29-year-old man over the weekend on first-degree robbery charges for his alleged involvement in a bank robbery in Stamford. 

According to Stamford police, Janssen Anthony Lewis, 29, of 74 Stephen Street, entered the TD Bank at 1625 Summer Street at approximately 4:37 p.m. on Friday, October 11, and threatened that he had a bomb and would "push the trigger" if anyone hit the alarm. The teller gave Lewis roughly $5,000 and the suspect left the bank. 

Authorities conducting an investigation were notified by Fairfield Police that there was a man acting suspiciously in their town the night of Thursday, October 10, who fit the description of the suspect, police said. Fairfield Police were able to provide the Stephen Street address in Stamford for Lewis.

Police said they went to the address obtained from Fairfield authorities and observed a red Saab parked in the common driveway between 74 and 78 Stephen Street. An investigator looked in the vehicle and noted a large amount of currency, a black bag and dark-colored clothing, police said. 

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, Lewis spoke to investigators and admitted his involvement in the bank robbery, police said.

Lewis was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree larceny. He was held on $100,000 bond. 

Capt. Richard Conklin praised the quick work of Sgt. Paul Guzda and Officers Mike Dibella, William Brevard and Frank Laccona in bringing the case to a close and thanks the Fairfield Police Department for their assistance and cooperation.
