Stamford Police Break Record For Coats Collected For Annual Drive
The Stamford community helped propel officers to a record-breaking coat haul.
On Saturday, December 19 at the old Stamford Police Headquarters, members of the Stamford Police Association, came together with the community to collect hundreds of coats for Person-to-Person, a CRITICAL non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against poverty and injustice.
The goal for the day was to bring in 150 coats for local families in crisis, but instead event organizers closed out the day with more than four times that amount, at 640 coats. The total set a record for the annual event.
Sgt. Jerry Junes, of the Stamford Police said, “After a year in which we have seen countless members of our community struggle due to COVID-19, it’s truly humbling to see the turn out that helped us shatter our goal of collected coats. I want to say thank you to my fellow officers and the community for helping to make this event such an incredible success.”

In addition to the coat drive, officers’ families had an opportunity to participate in a holiday party with gifts delivered by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The presents handed out to the kids were sponsored by the Stamford Police Foundation.
Sgt. Kris Engstrand, President of the Stamford Police Association said, “even though we were not able to get the entire community involved in this year’s coat drive and holiday event this year due to COVID-19, it’s gratifying to still come together to celebrate the holidays and give back to those in need. I want to give thanks to the Stamford Police Foundation for sponsoring the event, and for all that it does for our city.”
