According to his resume, Redd served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.

"Assistant Chiefs DeRubeis and Redd have decades of police experience and strong connections to our community. They have shown their dedication to ensuring our Police Department continues to grow and improve," Martin said in a news release. "Stamford is fortunate to have an incredible police force to keep us safe and we look forward to the two new additions in leadership."

Shaw believes Stamford has one of the best police departments in the country.

"I’m honored to have two incredible members of our department rise to the position of Assistant Chief. I am confident that they'll follow in the shoes of the accomplished assistant chiefs who came before them," Shaw said.

Jankowski noted that DeRubeis and Redd "have repeatedly demonstrated extensive knowledge in all aspects of law enforcement and have displayed an impressive amount of professionalism."
"They each bring their own unique skill set to the role," Jankowski added in the press release.

"DeRubeis has a great deal of experience in high pressure crisis situations due to his time acting as Bomb Squad Commander. Redd has a genuine passion for community outreach and youth mentorship that he can further utilize in this role. They’re both tremendous additions."

DeRubeis and Redd were promoted following the retirement of former Assistant Police Chief Thomas Wuennemann. Wuennemann retired last month after nearly four decades of service.
