Stamford Public Education Foundation Receives Funding from Wells Fargo

From Stamford Public Education Foundation: February16, 2017 – The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF), a local non-profit organization that has served thousands of students and their families since 1996, today announced that Wells Fargo has awarded SPEF a $5,000 grant that will be used to enhance and expand its flagship Stamford Mentoring Program.

Wells Fargo’s $5,000 grant will help expand SPEF’s nationally-recognized Stamford Mentoring Program at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. At the elementary school level, students learn civic responsibility through community service and reflection. At the middle and high school levels, students are paired with college and corporate mentors to set goals, improve academic standing, become engaged in school activities, and prepare for their future.

Through our relationships with nonprofits like SPEF, we can help create positive outcomes in the communities where we live and work,” said Catherine Cordero-Domenech, Community Development Officer at Wells Fargo Bank.

The Stamford Mentoring Program served nearly 750 students in 17 Stamford schools during the 2015/2016 school year. SPEF hopes that, with the assistance of charitable corporations such as Wells Fargo, the Stamford Mentoring Program will be able to reach 850 students in the upcoming academic year.
