Stamford Public Schools: Weekly Message From Dr. Tamu Lucero, Superintendent -- Mensaje De La Dra. Tamu Lucero, Superintendente De Las SPS
Dear Staff and Families,
May 27, 2021 - 5:05pm
Dear Staff and Families, As we move into the Memorial Day weekend, which marks the unofficial beginning of summer, I am excited about all that is going on in our schools and across our city. Unlike last year at this time, it feels so good to be out and about, celebrating milestone events in person. Earlier this month, I attended the Stamford High School Strawberry Hill Players Production “Put on a Happy Face”, which was held outside in Boyle stadium under the lights on May 14 and 15, 2021. My husband John and I enjoyed watching students perform various songs from different musicals, with reflection from the students woven into the performance. Thank you to all of the teachers, administrators, parents and staff who made this experience such a success under less than ideal conditions. In the end, however, I believe we have discovered a “new showcase” venue that could be used regularly for performances in the coming years. On Saturday, I attended the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Ferguson Library South End branch. If you haven’t been there yet, I encourage you to visit with a reading buddy to experience it first hand. It is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. I was especially pleased when they celebrated Ferguson Library’s South End Branch Supervisor Josephine Fulcher Anderson. She was named the 2021 Connecticut Library Association Outstanding Librarian for her record of accomplishment and outstanding service to the library profession. Congratulations Mrs. Anderson! And, on Sunday, I was fortunate enough to go to a Visual and Performing Arts Show at the Stamford Town Center, which featured amazing art and musical performances by Stamford High School students. One portion of the exhibit is called, “Celebrate Stamford,” and it displays artwork and student descriptions of Stamford landmarks that personally touch the student artists. The exhibit will be up throughout the summer, so please make a trip to experience the talent of our students. Thank you again to all of the teachers and staff who worked tirelessly to continue to bring a sense of normalcy back for our students and showcasing their artistic and musical talent. I am so thoroughly grateful to all of our staff members who throughout this year (and last) have found creative ways to help our students shine, despite the ongoing challenges of COVID-19. Again, as we begin this Memorial Day weekend, let it be a time to count our blessings and remember those who serve to protect our country and our freedom, and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. If you would like to show your appreciation, please join us at the Memorial Day parade on Sunday, which begins at 11:30 a.m., at Latham Park and concludes with a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. Stay safe and healthy! Dr. Tamu Lucero Superintendent of Schools EspañolKreyòl
