Cops: Drunk Stamford Teen Speeds Around Corner in Front of New Canaan Cop

A Stamford teen was charged with driving under the influence after allegedly takings a turn at high speed and accelerating to make his tires squeal—in front of a New Canaan police officer. 

According to New Canaan Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, an officer on patrol on Sunday, October 6, at 12:26 a.m., was stopped at a flashing red light at the intersection of South Avenue and Maple Street in New Canaan when he witnessed a car turn onto South Avenue with no turn signal and accelerate into the turn so the tires spun and screeched. 

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and detected the odor of alcohol coming from the driver, identified as Kevin A. Acuna-Escobar, 18, of 156 Joffre Avenue in Stamford, Ogrinc said. A second officer on scene noted a bottle with vodka in the rear seat, she said.

Acuna-Escobar was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to signal and possession of alcohol by a minor. He posted a $250 bond and was scheduled to appear in court October 17, 2013. 

A 20-year-old female passenger was not charged in the incident.
