Stamford Week in Review

In new mayor news, David Martin was sworn in a second time Monday afternoon after a midnight ceremony at his private residence Sunday at 12:01 a.m., and Martin wasted no time naming a number of new appointments this week, including Michael Pollard and Michael Handler as the Chief of Staff and Director of Operations, respectively, and a number of public safety appointments, including Ted Jankowski, who will retain his role as Director of Public Safety, Health and Welfare, and retired Assistant Chief Peter Brown, who will rejoin the fire service as Chief. Martin also took the time this week, along with state-level officials, to weigh in on the passing of Nelson Mandela.

In police news, a man was charged with stripping down to his birthday suit and causing a disturbance at the Stamford Government Center, a Florida man pleaded guilty in the latest development in a federal case against 20 men allegedly operating a Stamford-based Internet gambling ring, and a Stamford man accused of banging on a front door and yelling obscenities in Port Chester was charged with a DUI following the disturbance.

In community news, West Hill alum and published author Sara Kocek stopped by to chat with the members of the Ferguson Library's T-MAD teen leaders group, and Police Chief Jon Fontneau issued some safety tips for holiday shoppers this season.
