Statements On Passing Of Former Stamford Board Of Ed. President

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero released the following statement on Dudley Williams, a former president of the Stamford Board of Education, who died Friday morning:

I am shocked and deeply saddened about the death of Dudley Williams. He has always been a champion to Stamford Public Schools, long after his tenure on the Board of Education. I am fortunate to have been able to count him among my personal friends and someone I could rely on for advice and insight. The Stamford community has lost one of its great leaders.

The Stamford Board of Education also released a statement:

It is with collective heavy hearts that the Stamford Board of Education (BOE) acknowledges the death of three-term BOE member Dudley Williams. Dudley served on the BOE from 1995 through 2004. During his tenure, he held the leadership roles as President and Chairman of the Fiscal Committee. Dudley was a champion for special education and instrumental in bringing GE Futures grant funding to SPS. His commitment to the students of Stamford and to the greater Stamford community through the years was unwavering. Dudley will always hold a special place in our hearts and in the hearts of all who knew him.

According to Williams' LinkedIn profile, he served three terms on the Board of Education (1995-2004), holding leadership roles as President and Chairman of the Fiscal Committee.
