Winter Team State Championship History: Stamford Schools

STAMFORD, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway in Connecticut Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 27 CIAC winter team titles won by Stamford-based high schools in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

Trinity Catholic

• girls basketball (3) - Class S: 2006, 2003, 2002
• boys ice hockey (1) - Div. I: 1998

Stamford

• boys ice hockey (3) - Div. III: 2016*; Div. II: 2001, 1978
• boys indoor track (2) - Class L: 1957, 1951
• girls basketball (1) - Class LL: 2016
• girls indoor track (1) - Class L: 1994
• boys basketball (1) - Class LL: 1992

Rippowam

• boys indoor track (5) - State Open: 1981; Class L: 1981, 1973, 1970, 1966
• boys swimming (2) - Class M: 1980, 1979
