Academy Point Director Appointed to Greater Mystic Chamber Board

Bonnie Pollard-Johnson to Use Passion for Teamwork and Serving Her Community to Advocate for Local Businesses

Academy Point at Mystic executive director, Bonnie Pollard-Johnson, has been appointed to the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Academy Point at Mystic is an award-winning Benchmark Senior Living community offering assisted living and Mind & Memory Care.

“The nominating committee and the entire board overwhelmingly recommended Bonnie for this appointment,” said Bruce Flax, acting president of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber is going through a rebirth and want to place professionals from the community who are committed and engaged. We are excited to welcome Bonnie to the Greater Mystic Chamber Board of Directors representing Academy Point at Mystic.”

Pollard-Johnson brings over 37 years of healthcare experience to The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. A strong community partner in the Mystic areas economic development efforts and the business voice for Groton, Stonington and Mystic, the Chamber sponsors and facilitates community events, promotions for local businesses and for the regional tourism industry, resources for small business owners, opportunities to get involved with the community and advocacy in the government of area towns.

Pollard-Johnson is a long-time Mystic resident who is passionate about serving her residents and fellow associates both at Academy Point and in greater Mystic. “There are few things more important to me than community. My love for this area and the people here is tremendous and I’m so excited to have this opportunity to serve our local businesses during such a critical time,” said Pollard-Johnson.

In September, Pollard-Johnson was presented with a Real COVID Heroes award by Connecticut State Senator Heather Somers for her acts of kindness, heroism and charity that has made a difference and inspired others.

She also serves on the board of directors for the Connecticut Assisted Living Association’s (CALA). Under her direction, in 2018, Academy Point won CALA’s Outstanding Resident Service award. She has been with Benchmark for over 16 years, six as the executive director of Academy Point.

“I can’t think of anyone who exemplifies our Benchmark values of Called to Care, Better Together and Be the Benchmark more than Bonnie,” said Kathy Hooker, Benchmark’s regional director of operations. “In this new role, I am confident she will do wonderful things for individuals and businesses in the Mystic area.”
