Black Woman Assaulted At Mystic Hotel: Report
An employee at a Mystic hotel said she was attacked and called racial slurs in an incident over the weekend.
MYSTIC, CT — An employee at the Mystic Quality Inn said she was assaulted and called racial slurs in an incident over the weekend, according to The Day. Chrystal Caldwell, 59, of Groton said she was working at the front desk when a hotel guest called to tell her the hot water in his room wasn't working, then threatened her, saying his girlfriend would "kick her ass."
Shortly thereafter, the man came down to the front desk, continuing to threaten Caldwell. The man assaulted her, punching her repeatedly in the head and calling her racial slurs, according to The Day.
The man and his girlfriend, who are from New York, then allegedly attacked her again, repeatedly kicking her in the back.

State Rep. Kate Rotella (D-Stonington/North Stonington) issued the following statement on the attack: "Enough! People of color are being targeted by racists and we all must stand up and say, 'Enough.' Our neighbors, friends and families should not be terrorized by bigotry, hate and small mindedness. The time of silence in the face of racism is over – We must all stand together, speak out and root out racism and prejudice. I stand with Chrystal Caldwell in solidarity, anger and sadness. Her attackers should be charged."
State Sen. Heather Somers (R-Groton) also issued a statement. “We must stand united against racism, and we stand united with Chrystal Caldwell. The individuals who allegedly attacked Chrystal Caldwell while shouting racial slurs must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Justice must be served. As a community, we must raise our voices and say ‘No more. Not here. Not anywhere.’”
