Chicken Noodle Soup, can Cure Anything by Christopher Annino

Resident Christopher Annino discusses how good people like Senator Heather Somers and Sam Houston helped him when he had Covid-19

Not too long ago I was diagnosed with Corona Virus or as many refer to as Covid-19. My symptoms were memory loss, lack of taste and smell, difficulty moving, and numerous times I had difficulty breathing. It wasn’t so much as being diagnosed with the virus but the isolation one must endure that takes a toll on you. My scenario very similar to being marooned on a desert island with five VHS tapes, four cans of tuna, and a DVD player.

Us as humans have often times been mistaken as robots by the media and our fellow peers this was one of those many times. What I mean by that is so many times we don't realize that small things like engaging in a fellow human being could make a massive difference. We no longer socialize with each other, and instead of a medical expert we are filling out a survey. What is sad about this illness is that we are not equipped to handle it and any information that is available usually is as depressing as watching a funeral procession.

One moment I was healthy and suddenly everything that I had disintegrated. Within a week I became a shell of who I was. The online support groups were helpful but it got to the point where it was too much. During this time my only window to the outside world was social media. Similar to a castaway sending a message in a bottle I would post on Facebook with the hopes that someone would interact. In the midst of the isolation period I was growing more and more depressed it wasn’t so much the virus but the lonliness. At this point I went to a very dark place mentally. It was a time when I found out who really mattered in my life. Many distanced themselves from me and treated me like a leper.

One day hope came in the form of a Senator. Senator Heather Somers had been following my posts and reached out to me. Not only did she want to know how I was doing and if there was anything she could do but she offered to deliver me some chicken noodle soup. This may not sound like much to anyone. However experiencing that warmth that very few people had toward me at the time. Helped nourish my mental wellbeing as it meant so much to me. Heather being Heather not Senator Somers offered to deliver me some homemade chicken soup during a time when so many treated me like a monster. She didn't see that she looked past the virus and saw a person who was in need.

We had kept in contact and in many ways it was like having a second mother watching over me. Anytime I would be in a rut she would reach out to check in on me. Another dear friend of mine pro WWE legend Sam Houston reached out and informed me the best way to fight this virus was to eat oranges. I was taking Vitamin C supplement’s however he had expressed that a raw orange can offer more to fight the virus than a Vitamin. That week I started eating three oranges a day. Within days I had gotten better.

"I get by with a little help from my friends" lyrics by the Beatles however made famous by Mr. Joe Cocker is not only true it is fact.

Senator Heather Somers and Sam taught me that being around positive people that love and care about you are the only tools you need to combat any challenge. Heather Somers is the mother that we need to cure our state with some good old fashion chicken soup and Same Houston is the pro wrestler that is that hero he always was.
