Inspirational Suspense Novel Promotes Cancer Awareness
Local author draws on experiences as a pediatric oncologist

Celtic Crossing, Len Mattano's new inspirational suspense novel to be released Tuesday by Paraclete Press, was showcased by St. Baldrick's Foundation during September’s Children's Oncology Group meeting in Atlanta last week. This gripping story is about a grandmother and grandson—last of a long Irish lineage plagued by cancer—on quest to find the ancient curing cross of Saint Patrick in time to save the child. Family cancer syndrome is real: those with the inherited condition are at an extraordinary risk for cancer. As a pediatric oncologist, Mattano hopes that Celtic Crossing will both promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and encourage readers to contemplate its universal themes. "I'm proud to be a career-long member of the Children's Oncology Group—the world's largest pediatric cancer research organization—and to advance the cause of St. Baldrick's Foundation, an incredible charitable organization that raised nearly $200 million on behalf of childhood cancer research during the past five years."
