The Magic of Mystic Seaport
Sure, you could drive to Mystic Seaport. But did you know you can also come by boat and dock there?
Visiting Mystic Seaport is like traveling back in time, to a 19th-century coastal village and a working shipyard.
A place where the clang of the blacksmith abounds and the scent of kerosene oil lamps wafts through the air in the local apothecary.
For those seafaring folk with boats, you can experience the first sight of Mystic Seaport by the sea.
“The river is absolutely beautiful,” Captain Nicholas Alley said in the below video detailing the route by sea to the Seaport. “You come by some wonderful historic towns. The Noank waterfront is just gorgeous."
Alley said coming in to Mystic Seaport by boat is a highlight of the season for him, "because again, you felt like you were coming home, to where the boats were built.”
Workers are available to help boats dock, Alley said. Besides all the beautiful buildings that line Mystic Seaport’s streets, there are special events that take place, like the upcoming Salute to Summer and Decoration Day.
But it’s the quiet moments that hold the most allure for Alley.
“To me, this has always been a magical place,” he said. “One of the things that’s really nice about here is that you feel like you can just stop and sit on the bench and watch the sunset. This is when the other seaport comes into light, the quiet solitude, the stars overhead. So it is truly my favorite time and one of the magic places to be. if you get a chance to experience it, I really would."
Mystic Seaport is located at 75 Greenmanville Ave. in Mystic and can be reached at 860.572.0711.
