STONINGTON, CT — The body of a missing woman was found in the Pawcatuck River Thursday, according to WTNH. The Pawcatuck Fire Department found the body of Evelina Gaccione, 76, on the Stonington side of the river.

She had been reported missing Tuesday and a Silver Alert had been issued by State Police.

The search for Gaccione started Wednesday after she had been missing for 24 hours, The Westerly Sun reported. After the search was called off due to darkness, firefighters from Westerly, Pawcatuck, and North Stonington resumed the search Thursday with both land- and water-based teams.
