Mystic Barber Shop To Open Later This Month

A new addition to the business community is coming to Mystic.

MYSTIC, CT — Beachcomber Barbershop is the latest addition to the Mystic business community and will be opening later this month, according to a statement from The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. The shop's ribbon cutting will be June 26 at 4:30 p.m.

Owner Steph Silva previously worked at the Green Marble coffee shop.

“I wanted to do something creative where I could talk to people all day,” Silva said, “so I learned to cut hair.”

Silva had worked at another local salon, and when quarantine hit, decided to not go back, pursuing her own path.

“I’m not used to standing still,” she said.

Silva enlisted friend and fellow barber Chris Thorp, who used to work at the former Murphy’s Barbershop and Social Club, and finally opened Beachcomber Barbershop during Phase 1 CT Reopen.

“It doesn’t hurt to have some extra rules in place to be safer,” Silva said.

Silva and Thorp were always looking to get back to Mystic.

“I love Mystic,” Silva said. “I love the people, it’s beautiful. It’s great to be back.”

Beachcomber Barbershop is located in the Old Mystic Mill at 11 Main Street.

Hair appointments can be made online on the shop's Facebook page or by texting (860) 961-4238.
