Mystic Makes Main Streets Across America List
Fifty stores all within walking distance, be it books, baubles or bars. Treasures abound on Mystic's West Main Street.
There is so much to see in Mystic — the Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport — but sometimes, it’s really nice to just take a walk along Main Street.
Especially if it’s West Main Street, home to 50 shops within walking distance, a beautiful waterfront view and a drawbridge.
Pubs, an oyster house and a sweets shoppe are just three of the eateries on West Main Street, where you can have a traditional New England lobster roll, local scallops, hot fudge sundaes or even Mystic Pizza.
"There is an abundance of charming shops that feature New England souvenirs, gift shops with nautical touches, toys, an array of clothing stores, beautiful jewelry shops, a fine bookstore, and our iconic Army Navy shop,” the Historic Downtown Mystic website stated.
Mystic made the Main Streets Across America list, published by the National Life Group.
"The vibrant center of village life, downtown alive with local businesses like Bank Square Books, Bartleby’s Café, Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream — and a certain pizza place on the corner of West Main and Bank Street,” the National Life Group writes. "Mystic Pizza owes its worldwide reputation to the popular 1988 movie by the same name, which included Julia Roberts among the cast of then-unknowns.”
The Main Street blog cites the nearby Mystic River Park and Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, taking place in August. The seaside town joins Main Streets in Bristol, R.I.; Hendersonville, N.C.; Syracuse, N.Y.; and Tahlequah, Okla.
