Okee Dokee Brothers, Native American Whalemen and The First Day of School!
Five things to know on Wednesday, August 28.
- The National Weather Service forecasts scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm today and patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 79. Tonght, we may see some isolated showers and thunderstorms and/or patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 61.
- There’s a free, illustrated talk by Dr. Nancy Shoemaker that will explore the experience of Native American whalemen during the era of Herman Mellville’s Moby Dick. The talk is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the LaGrua Center, located at 32 Water Street in the borough.
- The Stonington Free Library his hosting a staff-led discussion of Phillip Caputo’s The Voyage tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- The The Okee Dokee Brothers will close out the Mystic Aquarium’s Kidsploration Concert Series at 2:30 today. The Aquarium’s website says, “through music, discovery and fun, Kidsploration features education and discovery segments, music videos of original songs and audience interaction. Kidsploration will explore a wide range of topics from recycling and animal rehabilitation to bullying and sharing.” The performance is free with museum admission.
- Today is the first day of school for most Stonington students. Be on the lookout for walkers and buses!
