Opening Day Looms for Stonington High School Teams

STONINGTON, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and many preseason scrimmages have been played, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Stonington High School. For a complete season schedule of Bear varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• field hockey - Thursday, 9/6, vs. Fitch/Ledyard, 6:30 p.m.
• boys soccer - Friday, 9/7, vs. Woodstock Academy, 4 p.m.
• football - Friday, 9/7, at Montville, 6:30 p.m.
• cross country - Saturday, 9/8, at Windham Invitational, TBA
• girls soccer - Saturday, 9/8, vs. Westerly (RI), 8 p.m.
• girls swimming - Friday, 9/14, vs. Waterford, 3:30 p.m.
