Oz: The Great and Powerful, Chess Club and The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center Needs Food Donations

Five things to know on Tuesday, August 27

  1. Today we’re going to see scattered showers and thunderstorms before 10am and then it’ll gradually become mostly sunny, with a high near 79, according to the National Weather Service. And tonight, they forecast scattered showers and thunderstorms before 2am and increasing clouds, with a low around 63.
  2. The Water Pollution Control Authority meets at 6:30 at the police station; Planning and Zoning Commission has a special meeting at 7 p.m. at Mystic Middle School.
  3. The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center is always looking for donations. They'd love it if you brought them some: Cereal & Oatmeal, Jam and Jelly, Baked Beans, Instant Rice & Mashed Potatoes, Canned Meats (Spam, Chicken, Tuna, Beef Stew), Canned Fruits. They also are running a weekend backpack program and they need the following items for that: Boxes of hard & soft Taco Shells, Taco Sauce, Pop Tarts, Granola Bars, Chocolate Pudding Cups, String Cheese
  4. Oz: The Great and Powerful is playing at the Westerly Public Library at 1 p.m. today.
  5. Chess Club at Westerly Public Library, 44 Broad St., Westerly, will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesdays on the second floor of the library, The club is open to all levels and experience. Chess sets and boards will be provided. The program is free and open to the public.
