Mystic, CT (December 13, 2019) — At a recent meeting of Power of Together 2, Always Home was named beneficiary of over $11,000 in contributions. In just three years, this Mystic-based group of philanthropic individuals has grown to include 118 members who meet four times a year to collectively make a difference in the community.

Always Home’s Executive Director, Betty Smith, acknowledged the impact that Power of Together’s gift will have on families facing homelessness. “Many families who live and work in our community are just one minor financial crisis away from homelessness. For these families, help with a month’s rent, a utility bill, child care or a costly car repair is enough to keep them in their homes and out of the emergency shelter system.” Smith added, “Because of the compassion and generosity of the individuals involved in Power of Together 2, Always Home will continue to provide assistance to the most vulnerable in our region.”

In the past five months, Always Home has already served 179 families, a 36% increase over the number of families served this same time last year. By combining case management support, short-term financial assistance, and creative homelessness prevention services, Always Home helped these families find immediate solutions to their housing crisis and create a path forward.

“We are so grateful to the members of Power of Together 2,” said Smith. “Because they care, struggling families will have a warm place to call home this holiday season. We are very grateful.”
