Stonington Historical Society To Host Independence Day Parade

The annual tradition will restart this summer.

STONINGTON, CT — This Fourth of July, come down to Stonington for the annual Independence Day Parade, hosted by the Stonington Historical Society!

The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the southwest corner of Wadawanuck Square in the Stonington Borough. Folks are invited to join the informal parade as it processes to Cannon Square and then back to Wadawanuck Square. Ann-Marie Houle, a local teacher and Stonington native, and Tom McCoy, the former Borough crossing guard, will serve as the Grand Marshalls of the parade.

After the parade, the Declaration of Independence will be read aloud. As is a local tradition, attendees will then cast a pox on King George after the reading.

Founded in 1895, the Stonington Historical Society preserves, interprets, and celebrates the history of all of Stonington, Connecticut. The Society owns and operates the Captain Nathaniel B. Palmer House, the Lighthouse Museum. and the Woolworth Research Library, as well as maintaining its collection of objects and documents and offering educational programming throughout the year.
