Stonington and Mystic Among CT Towns With High Gypsy Moth Populations
The gypsy moth may be a little insect, but it can certainly make a big impact.

Stonington and Mystic are two of a handful of towns in the state that are reporting high densities of gypsy moths, a dangerous insect if not kept under control, zip06.com reported.
Gypsy moths are destructive tree caterpillars. They have the ability to defoliate trees, and detrimentally impact trees’ ability to prosper and thrive due to their constant feeding, according to zip06.com.
A gypsy moth’s eggs masses may contain 100 to 1,000 and are laid in several layers, and residents are asked to attempt to monitor these insects and control them before they can reproduce, zip06.com reported. Solutions include putting burlap sacks around tree trunks and directly scraping egg cases off trees.
