Stonington Police Officer In Crash Investigation Resigns

A Stonington police officer who was disciplined for a March crash that seriously injured two people has resigned.

STONINGTON, CT — A Stonington police officer who was disciplined following a March 2 car wreck that seriously injured a Westerly, RI couple has resigned from the department, according to The Day. The investigation found that Officer Christopher Murray was attempting to catch a speeding car on Route 1 when he accelerated through a red light and struck a car crossing the intersection.

The couple injured in the wreck has filed a notice of intent to begin legal action against the town.

As part on an agreement following the investigation, Murray was suspended 10 days without pay, lost five vacation days, and agreed to complete driver retraining.
