Stonington Ranked Among US News Best Schools

STONINGTON, CT — Stonington High School landed at 1781 out of 18,000 public schools included in US News and World Report's rankings, putting the school among the top 10% in the country. The school also ranked 36 out of 205 on Connecticut's list and third in the Norwich metropolitan area.
Darien was ranked first on the list with the Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut coming in second.
SHS received a scorecard of 90.03, with 54% of all students taking at least one AP exam, and 45% who passed at least one AP Exam and a graduation rate of 96%, according to a statement from the school.

"Stonington High School is dedicated to all district students, fulfilling our mission: to foster a lifelong pursuit of learning in a challenging, motivating, and engaging environment. Upon graduation our students will possess a working plan for post-high school life and become responsible and productive citizens in the 21st century global society," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Van Riley said in a statement. "These rankings reflect our commitment to our students. Our faculty and staff are best-in-class teachers, mentors, scholars, and most importantly, role models who work tirelessly to support our students in all of their endeavors whether they be in the classrooms, on the athletic fields, in the band room, and in all extracurricular activities, as well as student work study programs."
By earning a national ranking in the top 40%, Stonington High School achieved status as a U.S. News Best High School.

Stonington High School has ranked in the following:
- Ranked #37 In the US News College Readiness Index in Connecticut
- Ranked #36 in Niche rankings for the Best Teachers in Connecticut
- Awarded 2020 College Success Award by Great Schools based on its success in preparing students for college and ultimately career
- Placed on the 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll for increasing student AP participation while maintaining or increasing the school success rate - one of 373 schools in the United States and Canada
- Awarded the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for having over 50% female participants taking the AP computer science exam
