SUFFIELD, CT — A 69-year-old man has died due to complications from COVID-19, according to the state Department of Correction. The name of the prisoner is not being released due to medical privacy laws.

The man had been transferred from the MacDougall-Walker Medical Isolation Unit to an outside hospital for treatment Dec. 15, where he succumbed to his illnesses on Tuesday morning.

He last entered the prison system in October of 2015 and was serving a 12-year sentence for first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. His maximum release date was in April 2027, and he was not eligible for parole until April 2021.
