SUFFIELD, CT — A prisoner died due to complications related to coronavirus Sunday, according to a statement from the Department of Correction. The name of the 67-year-old man is not being released.

According to a statement, he was transferred from the MacDougall-Walker Medical Isolation Unit to an outside hospital for treatment Nov. 26.

He last entered the Connecticut correctional system Jan. 30, 2012, and was serving a 24-year sentence for second-degree larceny and additional charges. His maximum release date was not until March of 2035, and he was not eligible for parole until 2031.

The statement reads: "As part of its efforts to minimize the spread of the virus, the Agency will further increase the frequency of its mass testing efforts, with staff being tested weekly and the inmate population biweekly."
