Dog 'Left Out To Die' In Storm At Suffield Park: Authorities

A dog was found abandoned at a Suffeld park on Thursday, police said.

SUFFIELD, CT — A dog was found abandoned at a Suffeld park on Thursday, police said.

The dog was located by the Suffield Animal Control division tied to a tree off of a trail in Stony Brook Park, police said.

Preliminary estimates are that the dog, an older terrier breed, was left exposed to the weather and elements for approximately one day, police said.

A leash had been wrapped around the dog and was cutting off the circulation to its back legs, police said. The dog's fur was "severely matted" and the dog and had icicles hanging from it at the time it was located, police said. It also had "severe dental neglect," police said. The dog was missing "portions of fur" from its tail, and a tumor was present on one of the dog’s rear legs, police said.

Animal Control officials, in a post on the Suffield police Facebook page, said the dog was, "left out to die overnight throughout the snowstorm."

The dog is currently being treated by an area veterinarian, police said.
