Man Wanted By Suffield Police Arrested Out of Town

The Suffield Police Department had posted the man's photo and description on its Facebook page Friday.

SUFFIELD, CT — A Massachusetts man who had been the subject of a Facebook appeal by the Suffield Police Department Friday was arrested Saturday in Stafford, police said.

John Joseph "Jay" Riley, 55, of Agawam, had been described in the Suffield police post as "a person of interest in several recent larcenies in our area." He was reported to be driving a green 1999 Ford pickup truck bearing a Massachusetts registration plate.

According to a state police report, Riley was involved in a late morning incident at a residence on Highland Terrace in Stafford. He fled the scene and was located a short time later, and was charged with sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.

Suffield police stated on Facebook:

"We would like to thank the public for your assistance. The individual was located and taken into custody by the Connecticut State Police over the weekend."

Suffield Police Chief Richard Brown said his department is "still assembling our case to obtain an arrest warrant." He also said neighboring towns Windsor Locks and East Granby "are developing cases" against Riley as well.
