Over 150 Roles Played by 5 Actors in Hilarious Comedy

The Suffield Players present "The 39 Steps" at Mapleton Hall for three weekends in May, 2016.

Did someone say "Mayhem?" How about "Madcap Comedy?" Performing on May 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8 pm, and May 15 at 2 pm at Mapleton Hall in Suffield CT, "The 39 Steps" by John Buchan and Patrick Barlow bursts with versatility and verve, all in the hands of master director Roger A. Ochs.

The cast: Steve Wandzy from East Windsor, CT; Elizabeth Miserendino from Deep River, CT; Tyler Wolfson from Suffield, CT; Konrad Rogowski from Chicopee, MA; Barbara Gallow from Newington, CT; directed by Roger A. Ochs from East Windsor, CT.

“This play is seldom attempted by community theatre companies hereabouts due to the demands it places on a small ensemble of actors. But this cast has risen to the challenge,” says director Ochs.

The 39 Steps mixes a Hitchcock masterpiece with juicy spy novels, film noir and more than a bit of Monty Python. An action comedy, indeed! The play also presents considerable challenge to the artistic and technical skills of the 64-year old Players company.

“The high-speed train chase, settings from the moors of Scotland to the balcony of a London theatre, and the period costumes are quite daunting,” admits Ochs. “And of course our Gatling gun for the airplane attack had to be invented. Welcome to The Suffield Players,” he quips.

“I’m having the time of my life,” says actor Steve Wandzy. “When I come to the theatre, I check my dignity at the door. It just doesn’t get any better than this.”
