Suffield Obituary: Kathleen York, 75

Kathleen S. York, 75, of East Granby, beloved wife of Wayne A. York, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Hartford Hospital.

Born December 28, 1942 in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Gastone) Shea, she lived in Windsor Locks before moving to East Granby in 1973. Kathleen was a caring, compassionate, and giving elementary schoolteacher for more than 20 years at the A. Ward Spaulding School in Suffield before retiring. She also liked to spend time traveling with her husband to many interesting places; her favorite trip was to Ireland.

Wayne and Kathie were looking forward to their 49th wedding anniversary this August. Wayne (Dad) was an extremely devoted caregiver to Kathie throughout her recent illness.

Besides her husband, Wayne, she is survived by a son, Jeffrey A. York and his wife, Michelle, of West Hartford; a daughter, Angela M. Gegetskas and her husband, Paul, of Windsor; a daughter, Kathy Mullen of Chicopee; a brother, Daniel F. Shea, of Middletown, WI.; two sisters, Rosemary Matton of Framingham, MA, Mary Jane Pych and her husband, Joseph, of Enfield; a sister-in-law, Dolores York of Ridgefield; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, James, Elizabeth, and Jonathan; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Richard Matton.

Kathie was part of a special group of awesome teacher friends, who often gathered for a great time with each other. She loved and cherished her time with family and friends, who always enjoyed her “pun-ny” sense of humor.

Her family will receive friends Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 10:30-11:30 AM at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
