Suffield Obituary: Violet Alexander, 101

Violet Virginia (Love) Alexander, born February 22, 1917; beloved wife of the late Andrew Alexander Sr. passed away Saturday, August 18 in her home.

Born in Glasgow, West Virginia, daughter of the late Augustus and Virginia (Buckland) Love, she was raised in West Virginia and as wife and mother lived in Auburn and White Plains New York, Wellesley and Centerville Massachusetts before moving to Suffield in 1993.

A well-loved woman of great faith she was continuously active in the Christian church; a prodigious pianist and piano teacher, played for local churches, radio, and movie theaters, she played daily into her 100th year. Known as the Hat Lady she crocheted thousands of hats, scarves and prayer shawls for numerous charities.

Predeceased by her husband Andrew, daughter Helen, and sisters Myrtle Adkins and Dr. Betholene Love, she leaves her two sons Robert Alexander of Bloomfield and his wife Melinda Alexander and Andrew Alexander of Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, a sister Dr. Lillian Wilson of Santee, South Carolina, five grandchildren; Robert Alexander Jr., Amy Hietala and her husband Aaron, Heather Schaechinger and her husband Gary, Kerry Meyer and her husband Lance, Christopher Alexander; and eight great grandchildren; Charles Schaechinger, Benjamin and Alexandra Hietala, Cassandra and Sara Alexander, Kaylan, Autumn, and Nathan Meyer.

Her family will receive visitors Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 1- 1:30 pm followed by a memorial service at 1:30 pm at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home; 443 East Street, Suffield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Centerville, Massachusetts.
