Suffield Reverses Referendum Decision On Historic School Building
The results of a referendum approving funds for repurposing a historic school building have been reversed.
SUFFIELD, CT — The Board of Selectmen has voted to rescind an $8.4 million bond resolution passed in a referendum four years ago that would have turned the former Bridge Street School into a community center, according to The Journal-Inquirer. Instead, the board approved for the historic school to be demolished to make way for athletic playing fields and a small playscape.
The new plan will need to be approved by voters at a town meeting or referendum. First Selecwoman Melissa Mack said the 95-year-old school building has been deemed unsafe by the Health Department, which precipitated the decision to vote for demolition.
