SUFFIELD, CT — Today we inaugurate a new periodic series on Suffield Patch, highlighting young student-athletes who are considered "unsung heroes." They are not necessarily the big star, but rather one who works hard, is a good student, is a positive influence and strives for the betterment of his or her school and/or community.

Name: Michael Novak
School: Suffield High School, grade 11
Sport: basketball
Nominated by: Valerie Gauthier

"Michael is my grandson, and is in his junior year at SHS. His passion has always been basketball. When he was young, he had someone tell him he would never be a professional basketball player and he should think of a better career choice. Michael did not take that to heart and went home to write a sign that he hung in his room. Simply stated, it said, “I will be in the NBA.” I have that sign and while he may not be considered one of the “best” on his team, every game he plays is with all his heart. He is a kind, caring compassionate young man, and I will always be proud of him no matter what he chooses to be. "
