Coronavirus Haddam: 1st Positive Case Confirmed In Town
The first positive case of the new coronavirus in Haddam has been confirmed, officials announced Friday.
HADDAM, CT — A Haddam resident has tested positive for the new coronavirus, officials announced Friday. The state Department of Public Health reported the first positive case in Haddam, a resident over 70 years old who has had “very limited contact with others,” according to First Selectman Robert McGarry.
“The resident has been self-isolating,” McGarry wrote in a news release. “He is recovering from the infection. His symptoms are improving daily. All of us should assume there are other people infected with the disease in Haddam.”
McGarry is advising residents to follow the guidelines to avoid contracting or spreading the disease:

- Stay home if you are sick.
- Stay away from crowds
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your face
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and phones daily
- Maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet.

“If you are sick, that site has guidance on what to do and how to protect those close to you,” McGarry said. “If you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your primary care physician or a walk-in clinic before going to their office.”
