East Haddam State Trooper Charged With Felony Assault

A state trooper is facing multiple charges and was ordered by the court to surrender his weapons.

EAST HADDAM, CT — A state trooper has been charged with assaulting his wife and ordered by a court to surrender all his weapons, according to The Hartford Courant. Gregory Smith, 42, of East Haddam, was released on $50,000 bond after appearing in court Monday.

He is being charged with first-degree felony threatening, third-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. He was arrested last week after his wife told police he has verbally and physically assaulted her.

She also said he has injured her, threatened her with a gun on multiple occasions, pulled her hair out, and thrown her into walls, The Courant reported.

Smith is due back in court Aug. 9.
