H-K, Hale-Ray Fall Sports: Past Titles, 2018 Schedules

HIGGANUM-MOODUS, CT — Practice is now officially underway for all eight CIAC-sanctioned fall sports in Connecticut, with boys and girls cross country, field hockey, football, boys and girls soccer, girls swimming and girls volleyball teams setting out on their quests for league and state championships.

Among schools in Patch communities in Middlesex and New London counties, Xavier is the all-time leader with 35 fall team championships, followed by St. Bernard (34) and Norwich Free Academy (24).

Area schools looking to repeat their 2017 state titles are Haddam-Killingworth boys and girls cross country (both Class SS), Xavier boys cross country (State Open and LL), East Lyme boys cross country (MM), Morgan boys soccer (S) and Old Lyme girls soccer (S).

Haddam-Killingworth's 19 fall state titles date back to 1980, while Hale-Ray has claimed nine fall championships since 1952.

Here are the state championships won by H-K and Hale-Ray teams in autumns past, as well as a link to this fall's schedule of varsity contests for both schools.

HADDAM-KILLINGWORTH

• girls cross country (3) - SS: 2017, 2015, 1986
• girls volleyball (2) - S: 2014, 1991

HALE-RAY

• boys soccer (8) - S: 1962, 1961, 1959, 1958, 1957, 1954, 1953, 1952
• girls volleyball (1) - S: 1982
