The ninth annual Amy Romano Memorial Field Hockey Scrimmage Day was played Sunday at Enfield High School.

ENFIELD, CT — The ninth annual Amy Romano Memorial Field Hockey Scrimmage Day took place Sunday at Enfield High School, attracting 19 teams from 12 schools in three New England states.

Haddam-Killingworth High School joined Enfield, Granby Memorial, Newtown, Northwest Catholic, Suffield, Stafford and Somers as Connecticut participants. Longmeadow, Holliston and Minnechaug Regional came from Massachusetts, while Keene became the first representative of New Hampshire to partake in the action.

Prior to the start of play, a brief ceremony honored Romano, a member of three Halls of Fame and a longtime elementary school teacher in Enfield who passed away unexpectedly in 2007 at age 40. Her mother Judie and brother Tony conducted a ceremonial first ball drop with Granby coach Sandy Wickman Mason and Longmeadow coach Ann Simons, whose teams have been involved with the event since its inception in 2009, as well as Enfield coaches Cookie Bromage and Amy Bartholomew.
