Haddam Restaurant Reaches Agreement On ADA Violation: Feds
Brookside Bar & Grill has reached a settlement with federal prosecutors about an alleged violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
HADDAM, CT — A Haddam restaurant has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors over allegations that the restaurant was not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), according to a statement. A complaint was filed by a customer of the Brookside Bar & Grill with disabilities who relies on a service animal.
The complaint stated that the restaurant asked her to show identification for the services animal and, on one occasion, asked her to leave the restaurant because of her service animal, according to prosecutors. Restaurants are considered places of public accommodation under the ADA and are required to allow individuals with disabilities to use service animals.
The agreement requires that Brookside Bar and Grill permit service animals, post signage that clearly states service animals are allowed, and train its managers and employees regarding the policy.
