Hale Ray Athlete Captures Title At Class S Indoor Track Meet

A runner from Hale Ray won a state championship at Thursday's Class S meet at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two Class S records were smashed and a third equaled in the Class S indoor track and field championships Thursday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Bloomfield won both the girls and boys team competition. The girls won for the 10th straight year, compiling 97 points to 58.25 for runner-up Old Saybrook. The Warhawk boys also cruised to victory with 115 points, with Old Saybrook far behind with 48.

The girls 4x400 relay team of Shante Brown, Terry Miller, Jahlia Banton and Jillian Mars set a new Class S mark of 4:04.73, nearly half a second better than the record of 4:05.20, set by Bloomfield in 2012.

Alliyah Boothe established a new Class S standard in the shot put with a heave of 43 feet, 11 inches, eclipsing the record of 43-0.5 set two years ago by her former teammate, Brittany Jones. Miller won the 55 meter dash in 7.03 seconds, tying the mark of Bloomfield's Cassidy Palmer from 2017.

Miller (55 meters and 300 meters) and Ja'kwan Hale of Derby (300 meters and high jump) were the only double winners among individuals.
