Killingworth's Luke Velez Earns Honors

Velez was recently named the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award recipient.

From Southern Connecticut State University: The honors continue to roll in for Luke Velez of the Southern Connecticut State University men's track and field team, as he was named the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award recipient last week.

According to a news release, the Killingworth resident also collected his fifth career NE10 Men's Track and Field All-Academic Team honor in the process.

Earlier this spring, Velez was also named an Academic All-District selection by Google Cloud and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second year in a row.

Velez once again had a decorated campaign both indoors and outdoors for the Owls and helped his teams to both the NE10 indoor and outdoor track and field titles this year.

During the outdoor campaign, Velez ran a leg of the NE10 Champion 4x100 relay and was also an All-Region performer in that event. During the indoor season, he was an All-Region and All-New England honoree in the 200 meters and the 4x400 relay.
