Meet Kevin Machi – Your Nutmeg Pharmacy Moodus Pharmacist
Keeping independent pharmacies alive and looking after the local communities health needs through the current Coronavirus pandemic
He’s 29 years old and was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey before heading to Connecticut and Ledyard, at the age of five, where he’s lived ever since.
He did his undergrad at UConn and found a passion for the pharmacy world and finished his schooling at the University of St Joseph’s in Hartford, graduating with his Pharm D qualification in 2017.
Taking some well-earned time off and following his love of soccer and the World Cup in Russia in 2018, Kevin met Viktoriia there and they fell in love and got married in late 2019

Kevin joined Nutmeg Pharmacy and helped to open their Taftville store in 2018 and after a year there, heard about the new Moodus store, and decided he would do it all again and helped to open the new store which happened in just 4 months.
If some of his story sounds familiar you could be forgiven for likening Kevin to the late Jack Hermann, who founded the Nathan Hale Pharmacy in Moodus, when he was just 25 years old.

Jack was from New York City, across the river from New Jersey, and went to UConn, where he earned his pharmacy qualification in 1972. Jack married the love of his life, Harriet and a short time later opened Nathan Hale Pharmacy.
So, what else do the two men have in common? A love and passion for their community and their customers.
As Kevin says when he heard Moodus needed a new pharmacy he jumped at the opportunity, “ I knew I wanted to be involved and bring back a local pharmacy to the town and I realized the best thing for Nutmeg Pharmacy Group and the Moodus community was to have an experienced store manager, like myself, rather than some fresh-faced inexperienced manager.”
When the Nathan Hale Pharmacy closed suddenly back in late 2019 the town was not only shocked at the sudden loss of the 47 year old store but were now without a local pharmacy, the nearest one being in Easthampton some 8 miles away and part of a big national chain.
It was through the efforts of Brad Parker, Director of the East Haddam Senior Center that the new Nutmeg Pharmacy Moodus came about.
And through the efforts of him, the town of East Haddam and Greg McKenna, owner of the Nutmeg Pharmacy Group a plan came together to get a local pharmacy back in the town as quickly was humanly possible.
So, here we are in April of 2020 and the new pharmacy has been open since February and doing swift business helping the local community and then comes along the Coronavirus pandemic and Kevin and his staff are more needed than ever.
Prescriptions are being filled locally once more, but more importantly the new pharmacy has a face to it, that of Kevin Machi, something you don’t get from a national chain.
Kevin says there nothing more enjoyable than opening a new local pharmacy and says, “ It’s a great feeling. There’s a great energy from the community and they’re ready to take you in and I felt that when I opened Taftville and even more so when I opened Moodus. And now with the Coronavirus outbreak we've become even more essential. Just like the community, we're having to adapt to make sure we can deliver the important services our customers need. Free delivery, curbside pick-up and going the extra mile to reassure people we're there for them. So, I just want to say a huge thank-you to the community and our new customers and we’re looking forward to many happy years as their local pharmacy.”
