Obituary: Frank "Snowball" Nosal, Former Higganum Resident
Frank J. Nosal was a U.S. veteran who served in Okinawa. He was one of the first Haddam Fire Department volunteer firefighters.

Frank “Snowball” Nosal passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 19, at the Dartmouth/Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H.
He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 64 years, Lillian and his two daughters and son-in laws, Pat Muzzulin and Jim of East Haddam, CT, and Kathy and Don Stusse of Sioux City, Iowa. In addition, he leaves behind two granddaughters, Amy and Amanda and two great granddaughters, Lillian and Cassidy.
He also leaves behind a brother, Joseph (Peachy) Nosal of Higganum, CT. Frank was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Mary (Glowac) Nosal as well as two brothers and five sisters, Steven (Step), John (Curly), Josephine, Agnes (Aggie), Annie, Julie and Steffie.
Frank lived in Higganum until his retirement. Frank was a U.S. veteran having served with the US army as a Staff Sargent and was stationed in Okinawa. Frank worked for Wilcox Crittenden and then for the Connecticut State Department of Transportation in Old Saybrook. Upon retirement, he and his wife lived the American Dream, they built their own home and moved to Perkinsville, Vermont.
Frank loved being with his family. They were the pride and joy of his life. He and Lillian traveled together throughout the United States and Canada. He visited his dream state of Alaska. Frank loved the outdoors, wildlife and sports.
He played horseshoes with some of his friends in Higganum. He loved the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Giants. He could repair anything and he was a very talented craftsman. He created many projects out of wood. He was one of the first volunteer firemen for the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department. Frank was very active well into his eighties, even snow-blowing his driveway and that of his neighbor during the infamous Vermont winters.
Family and friends may attend a graveside ceremony with military honors on Tuesday, May 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Burr Cemetery, Rte. 81, Higganum, CT. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.
The family asks that donations in Frank’s memory be sent to the Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156.
