Plane Loses Control, Rolls Down Hill At CT Airport: Report

An airport official said the plane went through a fence before ending up a parking lot.

CHESTER, CT — State police said no one was injured after a plane at Chester Airport ran off the pavement and rolled down a small hill Monday morning, according to media reports. The airport is located on Winthrop Road.

The plane was coming out of a hangar at the airport when a pilot lost control of the aircraft and it rolled down an embankment, NBC Connecticut reported. An airport official told NBC the plane went through a fence before ending up in the parking lot of Whelen Engineering.

According to News 8, State Police said Troopers were advised of the incident by the Federal Aviation Authority just after 11:30 a.m. Troopers are assisting the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA with their investigation into what caused the accident.

Deputy Fire Chief James Grzybowski told Eyewitness News 3 the plane got away from the pilot when it powered up. The aircraft hit some light poles and gate when it went down the hill.

The airport remained open during the incident, NBC Connecticut reported.

According to News 8, the FAA said in a statement the plane was a Moravan Zlin Z-143 aircraft, however they do not know how many people were on it at the time of the incident. State Police described the incident as "very minor."
