Town Of Haddam: July 6th - Emergency Rock Slope Stabilization Along Route 149 In East Haddam

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the closure and detour of traffic on Route 149 for emergency rock slope stabilization. The area to be stabilized is located between the Salmon River Boat Launch to north and Landing Hill Rd to the south. Traffic will be detoured Monday through Friday beginning July 6, 2021 for approximately 5 weeks.

The project consists of clearing trees and vegetation from the rock slope and then scaling the slope to remove loose or potentially dangerous rock and soils. The catchment shoulder area will be restored, and all excess materials disposed offsite.

DOT Project No. 0040-0147 was awarded to the Rotha Contracting Company, Inc. of Avon, CT, with an estimated cost of $250,000. The project is scheduled to be completed on August 6, 2021. This project is administered by the Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Route 149 will be closed to all traffic Monday through Friday between the Salmon River Boat Launch and Landing Hill Rd beginning on July 6, 2021. A well-signed detour route will be established to guide motorists around the work area on State Routes 82 and 151.

Route 149 will be opened to traffic Friday evenings and throughout the weekend and then closed again Monday mornings until the emergency work is completed. The Salmon River Boat Launch shall always be accessible via 149 southbound. Landing Hill Rd shall always be accessible via 149 northbound to local traffic only.
