Two Burr Elementary School Students Are CHET Dream Big! Winners

Kevin Gamache and Grace McKenzie, second graders at Burr Elementary, were among the 93 state-wide winners of the 2013 CHET Dream Big Competition. The two local students were selected out of over 2,200 submissions.

On May 16, 93 state-wide winners of the 5th Annual 2013 CHET Dream Big! Competition were recognized at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Among them were second-graders Kevin Gamache and Grace McKenzie, who both attend Burr Elementary School. They were chosen out of over 2,200 submissions.

They each were awarded a $300 contribution to a Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) direct-sold 529 college savings plan.

The contest encourages Connecticut students in kindergarten to fifth grade to share their dreams about life after college through drawings and essays. Both Kevin and Grace drew pictures to answer the question: “What do I want to do after I go to college?”

“We were impressed with the heartfelt essays and expressive artwork that our talented young entrants produced for this year’s competition," said State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier, who serves as Trustee for CHET, in a press release. "It was challenging to pick winners from among more than 2,200 submissions; all of the students put forth a great effort with their drawings and essays."
